When things are tumultuous…

Posted on 01 June 2020

Welcome to June! I have no idea what this month is going to be like, but I’m looking over my shoulder at May in awe. I didn’t forsee the month ending in such a revolutionary moment for our nation.

Though it feels tumultuous, I am grateful that so many people have been galvanized to action by the murder of George Floyd and are demanding change. Sometimes, lulled by our normal routines, it’s too easy to forget that — we CAN create a greater world.

We can redefine priorities.
We can transform systems.
We can say no to injustice.
We can take to the streets (literally and metaphorically) and work through our grief and rage collectively and individually.
We can look at our own responsibility for what is here, and we can take action so that something different is created.

Does this bring up a lot of feelings in you? If so, you’re not alone. The whole nation is feeling a lot right now. That is part of the process.

It’s important to be present to what is here now.
It’s important to be in the question of what else can be created.

Finding your balance between those is not a formula.  It’s something to practice and feel into moment by moment, day by day. When you notice that you’ve clicked into current reality too much, zoom out and take a higher perspective.  When you notice that you’re floating too far out or you’re not being present to the experience of now, bring yourself back and soften your heart to feel what is here.

Somewhere in that practice you become the bridge to greater realities.

There is so much in our personal and collective worlds that is ripe for change and transformation.  Old normals have passed away and as we step forward and create again, may we do so with wisdom, integrity, and clear vision.

P.S. I’m reading How to be Anti-Racist by Ibram X. Kendi. It’s brilliant, important, and the book I am sharing with all my friends. Check it out.
